Food was exceptionally well! Taste, flavor, and plating was all done very well. Service was great, waitress was very prompt and very keen on our needs. Ambiance was clean and full of happy customers. Definitely would dine here again while in Portland!
Walking into Jake's Grill feels like stepping into an upscale pub, with warm, classic decor that's both refined and inviting--the kind of place where you could just as easily enjoy a perfectly cooked steak as you could kick back with a great cocktail and people-watch. Casual yet lively, and buzzing with good energy. I started off with a happy hour trifecta--Kobe beef carpaccio, tuna poke wontons, and a spicy raspberry spirit-free drink--and then added steak bites to the mix, because why not? First rule of thumb: squeeze fresh lime on the drink and lemon on both dishes--absolute game-changer. The carpaccio? Melt-in-your-mouth good, paper-thin and indulgent. The poke wontons? Crisp, fresh, and loaded with flavor. Now, about those steak bites--they had a nice heat and were cooked perfectly to a medium temp, but needed a little salt and pepper to really bring out the flavor. The accompanying bean salsa was a nice touch, adding a bit of freshness, and paired well with the toasted bread for a hearty, balanced bite. Service was top-notch--my server was friendly, bubbly, and just the right mix of professional and fun. You could tell they enjoy their job, which always makes the experience that much better. Jake's is the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer, whether it's for the great food, the classic ambiance, or just another round of those spicy, citrusy mocktails. Will definitely be back--probably for happy hour, definitely for more carpaccio and steak bites (with an extra salt shaker nearby), and absolutely with extra lemon on hand.
My in laws were in town for one more night and had a request: steak! I don't eat a ton of steak, so I didnt have a place in mind to recommend right off the bat. Ran down a couple lists of "best steaks in Portland," found most places to be booked out, unable to make same day reservations. We feel like we got very lucky when we found Jake's Grill! It felt very nice but not overly fancy, there were two babies there so family friendly! One note on that though- the men's bathroom does not have a changing table, only the ladies. What are you trying to say, Jake?? I had the filet mignon and mashed potatoes and it was amazing, wine list also great, and the DESSERT. I had a bananas foster, not something I'd typically gravitate to, but my table agreed I won the dessert pick. No wrong answer I'm sure.
Ol' Reliable, I call it, because no matter what reason I've been here - drinks, happy hour, date night, group meal, whatever - Jake's has always delivered (or at least this location has). It's wanna-be fine dining - a tablecloth and actual silverware counts for that in this town - but with a side of Portland casual, and without being indifferent, which is what you love about Jake's. The huge main room with its tall ceilings and carved wood posts makes for a great backdrop (but bad acoustics) so there's points given for ambiance, too. The drinks are ridiculously spendy though some are actually worth it (the Aromatized & Smoked Manhattan, in our case = $22, but worth the whole smoke and fire show) and my King Salmon was absolutely divine, grilled to perfection, not overly sauced or overcooked. Same with the mixed green salad - a hearty combo of greens without too much drsssing. Service was absolutely stellar; you could not have asked for better on a busy Friday night with full tables, with our super patient server offering a great balance of attentiveness yet not hovering. She was receptive to any request or question, and went out of her way to keep those water glasses filled. Hey, it matters. Two thumbs up all around - just minus a star for price. The place is good for groups, for couples or even solo - the ornate bar is a great area to sidle up to. Parking is tricky in this area especially on weekends, so come prepared.
We stayed at the hotel across the street and we're trying to find a restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the prime rib. That was a Sunday special, and I ordered the salmon. We also ordered the asparagus and they gave us a free dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary! It was quite busy for a Sunday evening, so I'm glad we had a reservation there is a bar that does have TVs. However, the dining area was very nice. There is tons of space and seating and it was very clean. The service was actually very impressive. The menus even said happy anniversary overall it was a great experience and I would recommend!
What can I say but Jake's was a great experience. Just walking through downtown and happened to find Jake's. We opted to sit in the bar area and had a nice window seat. Got the bowl of clam chowder, Fried Cod Sandwich Lunch Special, crab & shrimp cake and blackened fish. I totally forgot the server/bartender's name but he worked Friday morning and had a beard. He was the best and even gave us some other recommendations in the area. I was just thinking that Jake's should be very happy to have a team member like that and every team member should be like him! Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive... Just a great experience! Ambiance 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10 Service 10/10 Bathrooms 10/10 Value 10/10 Food 10/10 Will I Return? Yes, but will try Jake's Crawfish down the street
We came here because we stayed at the hotel across the street and they gave us a coupon for a free appetizer with entree, so why not?!? It is a steakhouse so it can be a little more fancy but if you enter by the bar side it's more casual. We sat at the bar and order some appetizers and I had the lamb, delish. Drinks were also delicious. Would recommend !
Parking~its street parking but, parking garage near by. Service~It's best to have a reservation but, luckily it was a booth coming available. My husband and I were seated in 10 mins after arriving. Our host that seated us was very polite and, made sure we were giving a side booth. Our waiter was super nice and, very helpful when came to questions on the menu, checking on us through out our meal. Food-We ordered an appetizer dungeon crab and lobster spinach dip w/ flat bread it was so creamy, piping hot, and delicious. We ordered a 20oz Ribeye steak w/ garlic mashed potatoes w/ greens beans and a side of grilled asparagus. I ask for it medium well but, it was medium rare but, I didn't mind it at all. It was so juicy and flavorful, the garlic mashed potatoes were so creamy, and my husband said the green beans taste like it had balsamic vinegar on them (not a big fan of green beans) the grilled asparagus were cut and cooked just like I like them. The overall experience was amazing and, we really enjoyed every bit of our food. Ambience~it's actually very loud even though people are seating across from one another the liquor was making them yell (lol)! I would highly recommend this restaurant we are definitely going back real soon.
